Ashton Pina is a storyteller, strategist, mentor, and proud Cape Verdean.

His first feature, Nana’s Boys, released by Breaking Glass Pictures, explores how the absence of basic necessities forces pressure on the fragile partnership of a Black Queer couple.

Ashton Pina (He/King) is an outrageous storyteller who is deeply committed to amplifying the voices of diverse characters and creators. He co-founded BiUS Entertainment, the vehicle by which his first feature, Nana’s Boys (Inside Out & aGLIFF) was acquired by Breaking Glass Pictures. He produced and directed The Huffington Post and Now This featured web series, Bi, and the award-winning short films, In The Paint (Outfest) and FAYTH (Pan African), starring Jensen Atwood and Alexandra Grey.

He received an MFA in Film from The City College of New York, an MBA in Media Management from Metropolitan College of New York, and studied Acting at Florida International University in Miami. Ashton is a recipient of Riant Theatre’s Youth Empowerment Award and CityVisions “Best Screenplay” for his short film, The Brothers Texas.

Ashton closely supported Radha Blank on the Netflix original film, The Forty-Year-Old Version as Director’s Assistant and has been blessed with amazing opportunities like working with Beyoncé.

He co-founded BiUS Entertainment to produce content that promotes equality and diversity. More recently, the New Bedford native launched a non-profit to award scholarships to HIV+ students and support for LGBTQ+ filmmakers through the Queer Storytelling Project with The SOULE Foundation. Recognizing his passion to empower the next generation of storytellers, Ashton teaches courses at NYU and mentors emerging professional women with She Runs It.

Ashton loves to travel and fronts as a commercial producer at an award-winning healthcare agency while serving as a leader of PLUS, IPG’s LGBTQ business resource group.

Every day, he recommits to living with outrageous joy.
